About Project 365

I have decided to get back into my photography. I have boycotted my hobby for awhile because I miss the meditating atmosphere of a dark room. (Maybe I just miss the fumes!?!?) When I went to school I can remember spending very long evenings in the dark room and having a sense of accomplishment and creativity! Since I have made the switch to digital photography, I rarely edit the photos I take. With this project I will have different types of photos. All photos will be taken with my iPhone and will not be edited. Some will be normal everyday pics and some artistic in nature, but all will be a little part of my day. Everyday for a year! Here's to going out and finding the creativity again...

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Referencing the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 43:18-19, my minister challenged the congregation to become early adopters, that is, people who catch on and adapt quickly, and become an expectant people rather than retrospective.

The main message is to forget the former things and do not dwell on the past, even if it is a glorious past (you know, the "glory days" or "glory years" we all have), so that God can do bigger and better things in our lives than were done previously.

Here are some tips that encapsulate the message and will help you to make 2011 a year of expectancy:

1. Don't become a victim of a negative past
2. Don't become a nostalgic prisoner of a positive past
3. Don't live by memories - live with expectancy
4. God is doing a new work, not just a slightly improved work
5. There may still be troubles or deserts in your life - they won't go away but you'll overcome them with grace
6. There is always the promise of His presence
7. There may be a dying to self in order to welcome the new and better things in store
8. There is the challenge to start walking and give it your all

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!

YOU DESERVE NOTHING BUT THE BEST!

Why do we as adults do everything and anything to make a child not hurt, but can't seem to do the same for one another? We have the ability to do it when we choose. Why don't we choose that option all the time? I would never cause harm to someone intentionally. I actually do all I can to make sure people are taken care of and feel special.

Jasmine, aka Jaz, aka Fattie, aka Tiny Baby Fat One has a good story about how she became mine...

My first year of teaching I had a second grader come to school crying uncontrollably. I asked her what was wrong and she said that her mom made her get rid of her cat. I told her that was sad and that I had a lot of cats when I was little and my dad made me give them away. Blah, Blah, Blah... So she continues with the story that it followed her to school. Kinda cute, but I was ready to move on... All of a sudden I hear a meow from the closet. I asked Delilah were the cat was now. She looked at me, looked at the closet, looked back at me, and said, through an out burst of tears, "IN MY BOOK BAG!"

I ran over to the closet and sure enough the kitten was crying! The other kids in the class started to go crazy! I immediately shut my door and called one of my 2nd grade team members. She said to call another teacher and that she probably has litter and food in her car or office. Sure enough within about 20min I had not only a small litter box with litter but bowls of water and food!!!

To make a long story short, I had the kitten in my classroom for about a week. Until my landlord made his decision on whether I could have a cat or not. I named her Jasmine because that was the little girl's middle name.

And Fatty has been with me ever since! We're going on 11 years!!!!!

My friend came to our school knowing no English. He was a little bit hard to handle at first but wouldn't you be bored/distracted when you have no idea what anyone is saying around you for 6 hours a day? With A LOT of love and support and positive reinforcement by his AMAZING 1st grade teacher, he came down to my office to show me that he knows 14 letters in English!! He was so proud! After a BIG celebrations, a photo shoot, and selecting a book at the book fair, I walked him back to class and all his classmates were VERY excited for him and asked if I knew he could say 14 letters in English! They were so proud of him and he was BEAMING!!!

Celebrating knowing 14 letters in English is more important to me than any standardized test score ANY DAY! Just wish the state would reward such accomplishments!

No place to hide, no cover to seek, just gladiators having fun,

From battle to battle the exchange is of luck, skill, and pain,

With fists that fly from men who don't cry pain is showered down like rain,

Men who are men who will battle again with only sticks to start their duel..

New Creations Ministry is an outreach that began last fall. There goal is to use teaching and training to improve the lives of the Zambian. The current focus centers around the making of handbags using only recycled plastic grocery bags, a pair of scissors and a crochet hook. In a country with few resources and very little capital, such an enterprise is within the reach of most Zambians. In terms of supplies and tools, it is easily sustainable. Since January, over 25 ladies have handcrafted more than 250 bags, ranging from small wallet-sized bags to bags suitable for carrying large loads.

I started my day by shopping online, getting a few things for xmas presents. I did that from the comfort of my pj's in my warm bed! No long lines to wait in!!!

Then I used up a gift cert and got a pedi and mani. Why is it that I feel like I can tell my nail lady anything and everything!?!?!? Is it because they really have no connection to your life outside the salon and that they don't know anyone you know? Needless to say it was VERY therapeutic! She showed me that in a certain situation I am feeling like I did something wrong and am blaming myself and I have forgotten that I was the one who was treated poorly and it wasn't my fault. It is time for me to take back my life that has slowly slipped away in the last 2 weeks!

I went home, watched the Pens game as I cleaned the house and got ready for a friend who was coming over for dinner. Had an appt in Reading, went food shopping, came home again and started dinner. My friend came over and we had a great night of chatting!

I hate the Cowboys, the Yankees, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. Why do I hate them? Simply because I love the other teams and if you love the other teams you hate these teams! That's just how it works!

Now, with that said, my family was never really into hockey. So I never grew to passionately love a team. I always would cheer for the Flyers because they were affiliated with Philadelphia. I didn't know players names, team stats, rivals, etc. However, over the past few years I have become more interested in hockey, more so this year than ever.

I sat down one night with David and we watched a documentary on the Pittsburgh Penguins and Mario Lemieux. I was shocked by the passion and commitment to the sport and his team Mario had and still has today. That was the day I became a Penguins fan!

I'm an all around lover of sports. If my team isn't playing I'll watch another game! I get the rivals but when it comes down to it, I just like to watch sports! Well, I was certainly not prepared for the intense rival between Penguin and Flyers fans. WOW!

And although it was a little strange for me putting on my first Penguins yellow and black jersey, I stand by my choice. I still don't get the rival between the 2 teams but do any of us really understand any rival teams and why there is such disdain? Probably not.

I will say though... having a blue Penguins jersey would allow me to kinda blend in at the Funky Farm among all the blue and white Penn State gear. David will have to fend for himself! :0)

Girls on the Run is an organization I've been familiar with, helping with, for 2 years now! This is an amazing non-profit that pairs together character building curriculum for girls and running.

The objective of Girls on the Run is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. At risk activities include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, sedentary lifestyle, depression, suicide attempts and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.

We were lucky enough to receive a grant so we could have Girls on the Run at our school this year! The girls trained for 10 weeks for their 5K race which was today! They did an AMAZING job! I couldn't be prouder!

Girls on the Run is an organization that I would reccommend you look up and support in any way you can!

I was growing increasingly frustrated with my vacuum and the ridiculous amount of pet hair on my carpets!!! It made me not want to be in my own house! I took apart the vacuum in one last ditch attempt to get it working. NO SUCH LUCK! So I turned to the Internet and did some research. I googled, "best vacuum for pet hair." Every post I read recommended the Dyson Animal. I said ok, sold! Then I looked at the price... NO WAY!!!!! I searched for coupons for Dyson and sales for Dyson, etc. I read a post about a lady that went to Kohls and they price matched a Dyson that was on sale somewhere else AND they let her used her coupon on top of that! I was on a mission!

I wanted the vacuum and I was NOT going to pay $550! I spent about an hour trying to look up prices to find the lowest one. I found that Dyson's were 20% off at Home Depot and the price was $438. Then I searched and searched for a printable store coupon for Kohls. I was DETERMINED to find 20% off or more. Finally... SUCCESS! I went to Kohls, showed my ad from Home Depot, gave my 20% coupon, gave my $50 Kohls gift card and grand total that actually came out of my bank account... $322!!!! Almost 50% off the original cost! Kohl's actually had the vacuum at $599! I was so proud walking out the store hoping someone would stop me to ask to see proof of purchase so they could see my savvy shopping skills!!!

Next step... teeth whitening!!!

Today in training the topic actually made me take a look at myself, my upbringing, and how I turned out the way I did. I think I'm pretty freaking awesome but not without the occasional insecurities and doubts... I try my best every day to be a good person. Suddenly I remembered my tattoo... it means to teach and inspire. Whether I am dealing with students, co-workers, family members, friends or complete strangers, these are the goals in my life that I try to live by every day.

Betrayal (or backstabbing) is the breaking or violation of a presumptive contract, trust, or confidence that produces moral and psychological conflict within a relationship amongst individuals, between organizations or between individuals and organizations.

Betrayal is one of the worst human experiences. I say this because betrayal involves shock, disappointment and re-evaluation of one's belief system. Almost every betrayal makes the victim look back over their past to try to determine what caused it. This reflection almost inevitably leads to self-blame and guilt.

Funny how that works... No, not really!
