About Project 365

I have decided to get back into my photography. I have boycotted my hobby for awhile because I miss the meditating atmosphere of a dark room. (Maybe I just miss the fumes!?!?) When I went to school I can remember spending very long evenings in the dark room and having a sense of accomplishment and creativity! Since I have made the switch to digital photography, I rarely edit the photos I take. With this project I will have different types of photos. All photos will be taken with my iPhone and will not be edited. Some will be normal everyday pics and some artistic in nature, but all will be a little part of my day. Everyday for a year! Here's to going out and finding the creativity again...

Day 334

Does anyone even cross stitch anymore? I "sew" don't have sewing in my list of hobbies! I definitely know I didn't inherit sewing from my mom... Don't remember her ever sewing...

With that said... she made this cross stitch for my nana. Can we say, SUCK UP!?!?!

What have YOU done to suck up to your mother-in-law? LOL

SIP-A-Palooza

We had our final SIP parent mtg tonight and we turned it into a make/learn and take event! There were many vendors there from local agencies like the YWCA, Lancaster Rec, Lancaster Library, etc giving parents information to enrich their child's summer! We had healthy snacks, literacy games, math games, brain breaks, free book bags, etc! It was a blast!

These 2 kindergartners, who are in the same class, started quizzing each other on their high frequency words as soon as they were given the list!

Such a GREAT night!

I was in Giant yesterday and a former student of mine asked if I knew she was graduating this year. I said of course I knew. She then asked if I was going to send out the letters I had them write to themselves when they were in 6th grade. I could see the excitement in her face.  I told her I didn't remember what letters she was talking about (even though I did)! I kept denying it, telling her it must have been another teacher. I checked out and told her congrats and hope she gets the letter from whatever teacher did that activity.

I'm sure she'll forgive me when she gets her letter in the mail... :0)

I was reading some of those letters tonight and thought to myself how great that year really was...6 years ago... wow...

I LOVE Central Market! I don't go every week and when I do go I wonder why I don't go more often!

Today I had the chance to introduce market on a Saturday along with the music throughout the alley ways and at the square, to a friend that had never gone. He loved it!

Every stand is different and unique. These little mini (Nino) bananas were brought to my attention by Nilsa.  They are so sweet!  The man I bought them from was impressed I called them by name and knew their origin.  I even got to practice a little Spanish with him!  Click here for more info on these bananas!

The eulogy I wrote for Nan's service.

Nana meant a lot of things to a lot of people.

To talk about Nan is to talk about the hair salon in the basement, which many of us had the pleasure of being a client.

To talk about Nan is to talk about her wild adventures traveling within the United States and abroad. One particular story that came around more often than not was her traveling in a red convertible in California with her hair blowing in the wind.

To talk about Nan is to talk about her flare for fashion and her love of accessories. Finding an unusual piece of jewelry always made her day. Except maybe the time she came home from the boardwalk excited to show her new necklace with an interesting leaf which we immediately informed her was of the cannabis species. To which she said, "Well, so what!?!?"

To talk about Nan is to talk about a die-hard sports fan that knew every player’s name and stats not only on her favorite Philadelphia and Penn State teams but on others as well. And had no trouble telling the coaches and players what she thought during a game.

To talk about Nan is to talk about generosity, commitment, and strength. Her generosity to the numerous organizations she volunteered for and to the people she continually reached out her hand to. Her commitment to see things to the end, to never give up, and to always stay hopeful.  Her strength to be a wife of a service man, to raise a family through difficult times, and to lose the love of her life after 60+ years of marriage.

To talk about Nan means to talk about her and pap and our garden. As kids we spent endless hours in the garden with her and pap. We grew a little of everything. Spinach, carrots, snap peas, cucumbers, potatoes, a variety of flowers, and most importantly our tomatoes. It always seemed like the preparation for our tomatoes took the most work. I remember that pap and the boys would hammer in the stakes and Nan and I would rip up old bed sheets into strips that we used to tie around the plants so they would grow straight. We would set up a roadside stand to sell our vegetables and flowers. The money from the stand was our spending money for Ocean City every September.

Finally to talk about Nan means to talk about our family. Looking back on my childhood memories as an adult I see the impact that Nan had on not only my life but also the lives of everyone in our family, her and pap both. We were those little tomato plants. We could have grown without the support of a stake, however, we may have ended up hunched over with many more bumps and bruises.
But thankfully, Nan and Pap were our stakes. Keeping us upright and allowing us to grow into all we had the potential of being. And all the while, Nana’s arms were like those old ripped up strips wrapped around the tomato plants, not too tight but always a sense of them being there.

In the Early Morning Rain...
By: Songbird B

The sky is dark, there is no moon,
a gentle light rain falls...
I tip up my head to feel it's kiss,
like a lover's whispered call....

Just standing here, I'm all alone,
Silence reigns supreme...
Just the gentle fall of God's teardrops,
on the earth, so damp and green.

Hear the sigh, sense its caress,
on roofs, and window pane...
I feel as if I am touched by grace...
In this Early Morning rain.....

RIP

Before I Was A Dog Mom

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I made and ate hot meals unmolested.
I had unstained, unfurred clothes.
I had quiet conversations on the phone,
even if the doorbell rang.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I slept as late as I wanted
and never worried about how late I got to bed
or if I could get into my bed.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I cleaned my house every day.
I never tripped over toys, stuffies, chewies
or invited the neighbor's dog over to play.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I didn't worry if my plants, cleansers,
plastic bags, toilet paper, soap or deodorant
were poisonous or dangerous.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I had never been peed on,
pooped on, drooled on,
chewed on or pinched by puppy teeth.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I had complete control of my thoughts,
my body and mind.
I slept all night without sharing the covers or pillow.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I never looked into big, soulful eyes and cried.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop a hurt.
I never knew something so furry and four-legged
could affect my heart so deeply.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I had never held a sleeping puppy
just because I couldn't put it down.
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was well.
I didn't know how warm it feels inside
to feed a hungry puppy.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Dog Mom:
I had never known the warmth, the joy,
the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the
satisfaction
of being A Dog Mom.

So, Scrabble is adding to their acceptable words list... It's got some people fired up!

Whether you use "badware," "vlog," and "pharm" in real life, rest assured they're words - in Scrabble. As are "MySpace" and "Facebook," defying the traditional rules of the game.
The most recent edition of the Collins Official Scrabble Words dictionary was released this week, and the 3,000 words added to the new edition contains several entries from the tech world, including those that don't get used all that often.
What's a "blook"? A book serialized on a blog roll, according to Collins. I had to look up "splog" (a spam blog, which the author uses to promote affiliated Web sites, according to Wikipedia) and double-check that "scrobble", the term that Last.fm uses to report to the service the names of the songs you're listening to. "Pharm" isn't a nickname for "pharmaceutical," but a hack to redirect a Web site's traffic to another for purposes of profit.
Other generic tech terms include "wiki" and the already-approved "blog," plus a derivative, "vlog". "Badware," "fansite," "webzine," "inbox," and "darknet" all made it, too.
And then there are the two social networking firms: MySpace and Facebook, which are now approved terms as well.
Collins claims it's the authority on Scrabble, serving as the "essential reference for all Scrabble players". But the official rules, of course, prohibit the use of capitalized words. But that comes with a caveat.
"Before the game begins, all players should agree upon the dictionary that they will use, in case of a challenge," Hasbro, the owner of the license to Scrabble within the U.S., writes. "All words labeled as a part of speech (including those listed of foreign origin, and as archaic, obsolete, colloquial, slang, etc.) are permitted with the exception of the following: words always capitalized, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing alone, words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe."
Also joining the ranks: "grrl," or "grrrl," describing a rough-and-tumble female or female punk; "thang," "innit," "biach," "blingy" and - believe it or not - "punanny," which you can look up yourself.
"Qin," a Chinese zither, was also added, adding another word (besides "qi" that includes a "q" but does not require a "u". Other words that had previously been excluded but have now been added include "heatwave," "catflap," and "pushbike".

Yesterday it happened... Today it was all over the media:

Can it be true? You the gov't tells us about 25% of the real story...

So what? Osama is dead. Now what?

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.
So it goes.
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence,
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness:
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
