About Project 365

I have decided to get back into my photography. I have boycotted my hobby for awhile because I miss the meditating atmosphere of a dark room. (Maybe I just miss the fumes!?!?) When I went to school I can remember spending very long evenings in the dark room and having a sense of accomplishment and creativity! Since I have made the switch to digital photography, I rarely edit the photos I take. With this project I will have different types of photos. All photos will be taken with my iPhone and will not be edited. Some will be normal everyday pics and some artistic in nature, but all will be a little part of my day. Everyday for a year! Here's to going out and finding the creativity again...

Ok
so yesterday was the first day the Biggest Loser started at school. Of course I was sick all day! (At least I didn't eat all day!) JK But today I was on my game!

Breakfast:
Egg white omelets with green peppers and tomatoes
1 slice of flax seed bread
coffee w/skim milk and truvia

Lunch:
Tuna seasoned with Lemon Pepper

Snack:
Goldfish crackers

Dinner:
Chili with ground turkey breast, low sodium black beans, low sodium kidney beans, fresh diced tomatoes, fresh jalapenos, a little sauce, and LOTS of spices!

I know an important part of weight loss is planning meals so I made extra chili and have that planned out for lunches or dinner. I may even be able to freeze some. One thing I will HAVE to get used to is planning on lunches and making sure I actually eat them. That way when I get home from school I do not devour the entire kitchen!

I can do this! :0)

I can barely make out what she is saying but I finally figure out that her mom made her get rid of the her cat and that the cat followed her to school. I asked her where the cat was and she wailed... "IN MY BOOK BAG!" Sure enough I went over to the closet and heard meowing coming from Delilah's book bag! I made a few phone calls first to the nurse to see if I had any students with cat allergies, then to teachers in the building for supplies and in a matter of 15 mins I had a litter box and cat food and a water dish! I was freaking out thinking my principal was going to kill me!!! I called my landlord at lunch about having a cat and he said he'd get back to me. So the cat actually lived in my classroom for a week until my landlord called me back and said I could have a cat. She got her name Jasmine because that was Delilah's middle name. That cat has been through thick and thin with me! Apartments, houses, boyfriends, deaths, etc. I love this cat!

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Trust

At some point in our lives we all encounter people having two faces, who make us believe they are genuine in their dealing with us or they care about us. But sadly enough, the opposite is true.

At the beginning of the school year our principal talked about trust. She asked us to identify how/when we trust someone. The answers varied. Someone said it takes years to trust someone and even then it is difficult. Others said they will trust someone when that person proves themselves trust worthy.

I tend to have a certain level of trust right away with someone. I like to see the good people and give them the benefit of the doubt. This often ends badly and I'm the one that usually gets hurt. The trust is hard to earn back. Forgive and forget is only half true in my book... I can forgive but it is hard to forget.

However, I refuse to be cynical. I don't want to have to question everyone's motives right off the bat. I guess at some point in my life this will either benefit me or eventually be my demise...

$24 for coffee? Just wait, there's more... I'm starting to feel guilty. I'm starting to feel like I am betraying my favorite little franchise but really it's their own fault...

Mondays = free coffee with my punch card from the Sunday paper

Tuesdays = free coffee by showing my teacher badge.

Wednesday-Sunday = 99 cent medium iced coffee due to an abundance of coupons or 99 cent hot coffee refill due to the free mug they gave out. Or I actually make my own some days for free! (Well sorta free, you know what I mean!)

And now, I got a free medium drink coupon in the mail for my birthday and a free medium drink coupon in the mail for signing up for their perks club!!!

I'm a getting a whole lotta product for a whole lotta less money than regular price. I love being thrifty! Ang would be so proud!

Baseball, to me, is still the national pastime because it is a summer game. I feel that almost all Americans are summer people, that summer is what they think of when they think of their childhood. ADHD, Video Games, and Brain Training: Improving Focus

Many skeptics question the validity of an ADD/ADHD diagnosis because often these individuals are capable of demonstrating almost obsessive focus in one or two activities. With children, and some adults, the most common activity that can draw attention from an ADHD individual involves video and computer games. Why?

Research from NASA and neurological specialists suggests that there may be a natural dopamine reward system in the brain that creates a positive sensation to video gaming. It is sort of like the pleasure sensation that rewards chocolate consumers, in a broad sense. Video games also provide immediate feedback.

Think about it for a moment: kids in school are encouraged to work hard, turn in assignments, study and take tests, but the reward for their efforts isn't always instant. Report cards are handed out two to four times a year, depending on the curriculum, and those kids who are not doing well may not be receiving any reward despite their efforts.

In contrast, video games have short-term goals (e.g. beat the level, get the points) as well as long-term goals (e.g. beat the game) with a variety of positive rewards along the way. With many games, the levels are relatively short and this provides for a fast reward as the individual keeps playing. Now research suggests that video gaming may be used to help train ADD and ADHD sufferers to have increased and improved attention, focus, and control. This research stems from NASA research for astronauts on long trips.

Click here to read the entire article

Now, playing Mario Kart may not make me smarter but I will say that playing video games and in particular Bejeweled, has allowed me to clear my mind and focus solely on the game for at least that minute. My self diagnosed ADD is consuming at times. Playing these games seems to allow me to get my mind back some days!

In fact, playing NEOS delivers a workout comparable to jogging or playing soccer, raising heart rates by an average of 20%.

As players race each other and the clock, they’re developing their agility, coordination, strength, and stamina. They’re building teamwork and cooperation skills. And they’re having too much fun to notice!

About 500 feet after turning on Rt 501, I am in a dead stopped line of traffic. Using every four letter word known to man, I am becoming more agitated by the second.

I took a deep breath, a sip of my iced coffee, and decided to take advantage of not driving to eat my sandwich. I went to open the bag and there on the left-hand side was the word, "Enjoy." It instantly put a smile on my face and I felt the muscles loosen a little in my body.

Starbucks was not slow this morning, in fact the line was almost to the main road of the shopping complex. Someone decided to take the extra 10 secs, on a VERY busy morning, to write a little note on my sandwich.

It made my day, reminding to me to slow down, take a deep breath, be thankful that I have a job to go to, and to enjoy the little things!

Thank you Starbucks!
