About Project 365

I have decided to get back into my photography. I have boycotted my hobby for awhile because I miss the meditating atmosphere of a dark room. (Maybe I just miss the fumes!?!?) When I went to school I can remember spending very long evenings in the dark room and having a sense of accomplishment and creativity! Since I have made the switch to digital photography, I rarely edit the photos I take. With this project I will have different types of photos. All photos will be taken with my iPhone and will not be edited. Some will be normal everyday pics and some artistic in nature, but all will be a little part of my day. Everyday for a year! Here's to going out and finding the creativity again...

Together, hundreds of teachers from SDoL marched together to the Board Meeting to show support for education funding.

The district proposed to cut more than 60 positions, including mine, and outsourcing over 100 positions.

Several of the cuts are tied directly to the loss of nearly $8 million in state funding under Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed budget.

The district is losing nearly $1 million for after-school tutoring and $43,304 for its dual-enrollment program, both of which would be cut from SDoL's budget.

But the superintendent pointed out the district is committed to maintaining its full-day kindergarten and pre-K programs, despite a $2.3 million reduction in state grants that pay for those programs.

The other cuts include the proposed outsourcing of custodial services, which would affect about 88 jobs, and privatizing the operation of Phoenix Academy, affecting 33 positions.

The school board made no decisions on the proposed reductions Tuesday. Nor did it discuss a possible tax increase in next year's budget.

Even with the cuts, the district would have to increase taxes by nearly 5 percent to balance the budget. Without a tax increase, the board would have to approve about $2.5 million in additional cuts, which could mean the elimination of another 25 positions.

The budget is scheduled to come up for review again at the board's May 4 finance committee meeting.

So my job and others are still in limbo...
