This unexpected visitor almost came home with me from school...
Red (which we found out was her name) decided to pay Washington a visit. However, a pit bull running around a school during arrival can cause quite and uproar.
Before you know it, I am running around in the rain with an extension cord as a lasso trying to wrangle this dog and hope it doesn't hurt anyone.
After realizing she was not a threat at all, I brought her inside to my office. Shut the door and called the police. A few minutes later the police and Red's owner came to claim her.
About Project 365
I have decided to get back into my photography. I have boycotted my hobby for awhile because I miss the meditating atmosphere of a dark room. (Maybe I just miss the fumes!?!?) When I went to school I can remember spending very long evenings in the dark room and having a sense of accomplishment and creativity! Since I have made the switch to digital photography, I rarely edit the photos I take. With this project I will have different types of photos. All photos will be taken with my iPhone and will not be edited. Some will be normal everyday pics and some artistic in nature, but all will be a little part of my day. Everyday for a year! Here's to going out and finding the creativity again...

Day 272
I do my best thinking while driving... It calms me down, sets me straight, energizes me...
Thinking
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win but you think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will -
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise;
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battle doesn't always go
To stronger or faster men;
But sooner or later the man who wins,
Is the one who thinks he can.
-- Walter D. Wintle

Day 270
My job can be trying at times. I get frustrated. I get overwhelmed. I get down right angry! However, children do not act out without reason. Even if the reason is because they just felt like it. As frustrating as that can be, I need to always remember that I am the adult. I'm the one that can control what I do and say. I'm the one that needs to teach social skills or coping skills or needs to be compassionate even with the most trying of children. It breaks my heart when dealing with a student that does everything in her power to get sent home. Why such a change? As adults, that's what we have to figure out... I deal with behaviors all day long and there's nothing I'd rather do!

Day 265
I really am not much of a green thumb! It's the ONE trait I did not get from the Funk side of my family!
Every year I do try to put forth a good effort! However I have little success...
This year I found a catalog at school, "Gardening For Kids." I should be able to handle this, right? All I want are my own tomato plants. Is that too much to ask?
Not this year it isn't... I'm determined!

American Cancer Society
DAFFODIL DAYS!!!
I've been collecting their Boyd's Bears since they started and every year I help out the efforts to help support Cancer research!
AND it just so happens that daffodils happen to be one of my favorite flowers!
If you missed Daffodil Days you can support the American Cancer Society in MANY other ways! Click here to help!
WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO (version 2 anonymous)
Cancer is so limited that:
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit
LOVE YOU LH! YOU CAN DO IT!

Day 264
I really take offense to this little sign hanging on my door when I get home...
A little sign that seems to be on MY door and not on either of my neighbors' doors!
A little sign that basically says, "Your lawn sucks. You need help."
Damn you TruGreen... you just guilted me into paying you $44 to "fix" the lawn that I actually spent 2 hours raking, weeding, and planting on Saturday...

Day 263
OCD... No, I don't mean Ocean City... whatever...
I have developed a few OCD tendencies recently, and by recently I mean over the past few years...
I've noticed that it bothers me if the front door isn't locked AND bolted before I go to bed.
Also, both light switches, at the bottom of the stairs, need to be pointing the same direction at all times!
I will only drink hot tea out of my big oversized christmas mug, no matter what time of the year. (see pic)
I am an extremely routine person in the morning. Get up, check email, shower, blow dry my hair, get dressed, curl my hair, put shoes on, let dog out, make-up, let dog in, leave house, Starbucks iced coffee, extra nonfat 3 splenda. All is right with the world and I can relax...
Man, I have issues!

Day 261
She is out for the count... Today was a GORGEOUS day! It was 75+ degrees in some places! I came home and took Juno to the dog park for almost 2 hours! She ran her little heart out!
We walked in the door, she got a drink, and laid in that spot the rest of the night. She tried chewing on her bone but that didn't last very long.
She was pasted out for a good 3 hours or more!

Day 260
HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!!!
Although we had testing most of the day, I tried to slip away and have some fun with the little kids...
This is a 1st grade buddy of mine! This morning he was so excited about his tie but when he lined up with his class everyone was making a big fuss over it. The other kids LOVED his tie but he thought they were laughing at him. He got embarrassed and tried taking it off. I immediately made a BIG deal about the tie and told him how cool I thought it was and that him and I needed to get a picture taken together.
He is also one of my "glasses buddies." He used to not want to wear his glasses so I made sure I wore mine every day for a few weeks for him to feel comfortable. I would check in on him and would tell him that glasses were the coolest things EVER!!!
I tracked him down at lunch and got our picture taken! He was telling everyone about it the rest of the day! So was I!!! He's so cute!!!

Day 259
BRUSH BRUSH SMILE!
The BUS has arrived at Washington!
Imagine a nine-year-old child suffering for years with pain in his mouth… a chronic pain that keeps him from focusing in the classroom and causes him to miss many days of school – all because his parents can’t afford to take him to a dentist.
In partnership with the school districts of Lancaster County and other community service organizations, Brush. Brush. Smile!® improves the oral health of low income or economically disadvantaged children from birth to age 18. Among the main components of Brush. Brush. Smile! are care, education and advocacy. They offer a full range of education and children’s oral health services in their technologically advanced children’s mobile dental clinic – the “Brush Brush Bus.”

Day 258
It's that time...
PSSA!!!!
Hmmmm... not that excited? Me neither however, after today (the first day) I'm proud to report things that will surely excite you!
I saw:
Students using graphic organizers
Students drawing pictures to figure out a problem
Students giving each other high fives after the test
Students fighting every desire to quit
Students light up inside when they figured out a problem
I heard:
Students encouraging one another before the test
Teachers giving pep talks that were full of love
It was a good day!
Many people complain about these tests and while I don't particularly care for them or that our funding is based on the results, I do recognize the fact that because of the value of these tests, instruction is more data driven to get the best results possible and it has really forced school districts to look at the way we teach and what we teach.
The levels of instruction and learning have never been higher!

Day 256
Happy 93rd birthday celebration Nana!!!
It was awesome to have so many people together for Nana's annual birthday celebration at Eden Resort Brunch!
That what Nana does... she brings us all together!
Nana you are so special.
Your love knows no bounds.
A room takes on a special warmth whenever you're around.
You think we're cute and talented and maybe, even wise.
But we know that's because all Nana's see through loving eyes.
Every day with you is precious.
We're so grateful for the hours.
Of all the Nana's in the world
we're thankful that you're ours.

Day 255
A friend and I have been talking about Lancaster having a roller derby team. I did a little investigating and sure enough, we do!!!
Dutchland Rollers had their opening bout tonight! What an experience...
We were a little disappointed by the lack of physical contact. Honestly I was ready for bitches to beat each other up! The best part of the game was some of the players names...
Our favorite...
MILF-shake X-THICK
Check it out... Dutchland Rollers!

Day 253
Dogs are miracles with paws.
We long for an affection altogether ignorant of our faults. Heaven has accorded this to us in the uncritical canine attachment. ~George Eliot
I think we are drawn to dogs because they are the uninhibited creatures we might be if we weren't certain we knew better. They fight for honor at the first challenge, make love with no moral restraint, and they do not for all their marvelous instincts appear to know about death. Being such wonderfully uncomplicated beings, they need us to do their worrying. ~George Bird Evans, Troubles with Bird Dogs

Day 248
So I have been soooooo sick for the past 3 days. I was looking forward to going to Josh's surprise 30th party in DC but wasn't sure if I could make it.
Of course when looking for sympathy from B Funk (my first mistake) all I got was, "Suck it up and get there." I should have known better...
So I woke up this morning and put on my dress... uh, I looked like DEATH WARMED OVER! (as I was hacking up a lung)
I decided I needed something to make me feel better! It was free tan weekend at the tanning salon so I knew the lights always made me feel better but also knew one session wouldn't make me tan. I went and tanned but then I also got a spray tan. When I left the salon, I was warm and tan and feeling better!
I went home and slept the rest of the day. Woke up, took a shower, and left for DC.
I got there around 6pm and felt great for about an hour... then I started to feel really sick again. However, just when I needed a pick me up...
Josh thanked everyone for coming and thanked Kelly for putting everything together and then...
HE PROPOSED TO KELLY!!!!
I instantly felt great for about 30mins and and was SO happy I decided to come! Then I crashed hard! I left to go home around 8:30ish!
Got home and although I can't breath and feel pretty crappy, I'm wide awake with happiness for my brother and his FIANCE!

Juno always gets the spot light...
It's Fatty's turn!
The cat cracks me up! If there is a plastic bag anywhere in the house she will find it and it will be where she chooses to sleep! (or crawl into, or play with...)
I LOVE this cat!

Day 244
The first signs of spring bring smiles and joy to us all,
Its the beginning of nature and the birth of the new season,
It brings life and renewal back to the cold plains,
Springing buds that will flourish,
Then open in full bloom for summer,
The young of the cattle and the spring of the lamb,
Are all the signs of spring,
With the snow and freeze temperatures,
Turning into cool breezes,
And clear sunny winds blowing,
Knowing its spring again,
The mundane feelings of winter blues,
Start to diminish in our seasonal affective winter faces,
As the sun shines a bit warmer,
So does the color of our face glow brighter,
And all show well in the spring of their steps,
As even the old can get out some more,
Now spring has arrived with safer passage,
Spring is also a time to clear out,
The unwanted items in our homes as we spring clean,
Then there the things to forget or put in the past,
Is in the spring cleaning of our thinking,
To clear our thinking better for a clearer future,
Then there's the renewal of forgiving,
As we forgive and forget,
Forgiving to start anew,
Is the starting again,
Or re birthing the past,
With a new attitude to help,
Its foundations this time round stronger,
Spring,
Is the time to see how it all begins,
For what is way beneath the ground or hibernating,
In the spring shows itself and nature in it splendor,
For what decays and withers,
The spring shows its second coming,
From what lay beneath the ground all winter,
Springs renews in growth,
And mother nature shows her splendor,
Come the first signs of spring,
We all start feeling somewhat better.
